The landscape of Velaa Private Island transforms the island into a carefully curated tropical environment where architecture and vegetation are closely intertwined. Spread across an island of just under 20 hectares, the resort was developed as a private landscape in which villas, paths and communal spaces are embedded within dense tropical vegetation to preserve privacy and create the feeling of a natural island retreat. The gardens were conceived with a naturalistic approach inspired by the vegetation of Maldivian islands, combining indigenous species with ornamental tropical plants to recreate a layered ecosystem. Large banyan trees, pandanus groves and coconut palms structure the landscape, while coastal vegetation stabilizes the shoreline and frames views toward the lagoon. Within this setting, pathways wind through dense greenery linking villas, beaches and shared facilities, creating shaded sequences of spaces that gradually reveal the ocean. Many villas are designed around private garden courtyards or atrium gardens, reinforcing the connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape while providing secluded outdoor areas with pools, lounges and open-air bathrooms.
